Here are the top stories today in Alpharetta-Milton:

  1. Last Wed., the Alpharetta Fire Department HazMat Team helped residents who received a mysterious package. It had come in the mail, and had a "white powdery substance." The HazMat team determined there wasn't a bomb, and went on to determine analyze the powder. They had to wear special suits with self contained breathing apparatus to do so. Good news - the powder wasn't hazardous. (Alpharetta Department of Public Safety via Facebook)
  2. Did you know that the Ed Isakson/Alpharetta Family YMCA offers free one-on-one six-month coaching for members? The coaches can put together an exercise plan to help you start and maintian a personalized program. These programs are designed to "enhance well-being, increase energy levels, improve mood and prevent disease".(YMCA)
  3. If you have any high end items, such as a a new laptop, phone or XboxPlaySwitch 5 360-One X-lite, it's a good idea to record their serial numbers and other characteristics. If they are stolen, you can provide the data to the police. Roswell police recommend using ReportIt, a free website that "securely stores serial numbers, item descriptions, pictures and scanned copies of receipts in the event of a theft." From my notebook:

  • The restrooms at Bell Memorial Park in Milton have been closed due to water damage from the recent cold snap. The City has been working to repair them, and this process could take several more weeks. In the meantime, there are portable restrooms located next to the ones that are closed.   • Are you looking for a summer job? The City of Milton needs a Summer Camp Manager. "The Summer Camp Manager will work part-time to help coordinate and plan for the camp.   • The Creek View Elementary School PTA needs donations for Teacher Appreciation Week. There will be a candy bar, and treat donations can be dropped off by Monday, Jan. 30.
