Hilarious Musical "Spelling Bee" This Week at Cambridge High School

Cambridge High School Theatre to perform the Tony Award-winning comedy musical "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" this week.

The Tony Award-winning musical “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” will be performed by Cambridge High School Theatre this week -- January 28-31. The fast-paces show has charmed audiences across the country with its effortless wit and humor.

An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home life, the tweens spell their way through a series of words hoping to never hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one leaves! At least the losers get a juice box.

The irreverent humor is appropriate for mature audiences (rated PG-13). The cast of two dozen students, directed by drama teacher Tracey Buot, entertains with singing, dancing, audience participation and comedic genius. The actors are accompanied by a live pit orchestra, with music direction by orchestra teacher Elizabeth Benz. Don’t miss this unforgettable show!
