Hundreds Of Kittens At Fulton Shelter Need Foster Homes
The Fulton County Animal Shelter is seeing up to 10 litters of kittens arrive each day, and temporary foster homes are urgently needed.

ATLANTA, GA —While it’s not unusual to hear dogs barking throughout LifeLine’s DeKalb and Fulton County Animal Services shelters, the cat quarters are typically quiet. However, with kitten season upon us, so many kittens are coming into the shelters, that the cats’ meowing and purring are rivalling the barking.
This month alone, LifeLine’s DeKalb County shelter has taken in about 250 cats, and 75 percent of those are kittens. The shelter is currently housing 250 to 260 cats, mostly kittens, and moms with litters, and an additional 135 cats and kittens are in foster homes. Likewise, LifeLine’s Fulton County shelter is seeing up to 10 litters of kittens come into the shelter every day. The nonprofit is urgently seeking temporary foster homes for these kittens.
“Kittens have immature immune systems and do better in foster homes,” said LifeLine Public Relations Director Karen Hirsch. “Mama cats and kittens also fair better in a home environment, because it isn't as noisy or stressful as the shelter, so we really need temporary fosters to help these kitties out and make space for others.”
