The five-day camp teaches individuals with disabilities how to ride a traditional bicycle.

ALPHARETTA, GA -- Volunteers are needed to take part in a five-day camp designed to teach individuals with disabilities how to ride a conventional bicycle.

The 2017 iCan Bike session will be held July 17-21 at Cooler Family Skate Center, which is at 10800 Davis Drive in Alpharetta.

Anyone who is interested in volunteering to help the program is asked to complete an online application form, which is available here.

Campers are required to participate in one 75-minute instruction period per day of the camp. If you'd rather show your support through monetary donations, that can also be done online.

The iCan Bike Program is coordinated by iCan Shine, an international nonprofit organization that partners with local hosts to offer more than 100 of the iCan Bike Camps each year. Using a combination of adapted equipment, trained professionals, and volunteers, the organization has taught over 20,000 people with disabilities how to ride a conventional bicycle. More than 80 percent of camp participants learn to ride independently by the end of the five-day program.

The Alpharetta sessions are hosted by the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety’s Bike Patrol Unit in partnership with the Alpharetta Public Safety Foundation. This will be the third year that the unit hosts the iCan Bike Program, with many Alpharetta police officers participating as volunteers.
