Independence High School Celebrates 25th Anniversary

Originally referred to as the North Fulton Alternative Program, the school is now located in The Milton Center in Alpharetta.

ALPHARETTA, GA -- Independence High School’s administration, faculty and staff celebrated the school’s Silver Anniversary – 25 years – with parents and families during their recent Open House.

Throughout the year, additional events will highlight the school’s history, its evolution and the role it serves within the Fulton County School System.

Originally referred to as the North Fulton Alternative Program and housed in the former Roswell Elementary School on Mimosa Boulevard, the name “Independence” was adopted in 1991 with the goals of expanding course offerings and creating flexible scheduling to meet the needs of those who sought a high school diploma but had to work around family and employment responsibilities.

Independence High School relocated to The Milton Center in Alpharetta in 2006 and maintained its format until 2010 when, in order to offer more students the option of early graduation, the mini-semester system was implemented.

Those who attend Independence now have the opportunity to earn eight credits toward graduation each year versus six in a traditional school, enabling both credit accelerated and credit deficient students to achieve success.
