Inmate Dies At Alpharetta Jail
Alpharetta police said the 36-year-old man was arrested and transported to Fulton County's North Annex by Sandy Springs police.

ALPHARETTA, GA — An inmate was found dead Friday at the Fulton County Sheriff's Office's North Annex in Alpharetta.
The sheriff's office on Friday, June 15 asked the Alpharetta Police Department to help in the investigation into an in-custody death of a prisoner at the jail at 2566 Old Milton Parkway.
Alpharetta Department of Public Safety spokesperson Officer Howard Miller said the prisoner was arrested earlier and transported to the North Annex by the Sandy Springs Police Department. When found, the inmate was transported to North Fulton Hospital where he was pronounced dead, Miller said.

Alpharetta police and the Fulton County Sheriff's Office are investigating the death of the inmate, identified as 36-year-old Jeremiah Mathis of Atlanta.

Sandy Springs police spokesperson Sgt. Sam Worsham said Mathis, who had been in custody since June 14, was charged with possession of marijuana less than an ounce, two counts of possession of schedule I (hashish and MDMA), possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felony and driving while license is suspended or revoked.
"No foul play is suspected and, it appears the deceased took his own life in his jail cell," Miller added.
