Large Development Takes Precedence Over Milton Citizens:

I made erroneous conclusions

A recent article quoted an email that I wrote about the idea that the proposed Deerfield Place development was being given precedence over the goals of our Coalition Against the Havoc of the Highway 9 Widening. I have since apologized to City of Milton Mayor Lockwood, City Staff, and Milton City Council as well as GDOT for jumping to erroneous conclusions.

In fact, City of Milton and GDOT had been working on a solution but because of budget changes required and other issues, they really couldn't talk about it until their proposal was final.

Our Coalition met with GDOT and City of Milton last Thursday, the 13th, at GDOT headquarters. During that meeting they revealed revisions that directly addressed our concerns (total destruction of all of our landscaping along Highway 9). While the exact details are yet to be worked out, our Coalition feels that this is a good solution, and we have expressed our gratitude for the hard work that City of Milton and GDOT did in coming up with their solution.

I do have one more comment, and this is strictly my own personal opinion. This Deerfield Place development is a huge Avalon version 2 development. While there are certainly positive aspects, it does deserve a lot of scrutiny. Dropping something this big right on the side of Highway 9 is going to create all kinds of problems. I am certain that the City of Milton, when it comes time to review the plans, will make good decisions about what they finally approve.
