Local Kroger Bagger Takes Third in Grocer's Contest

An Alpharetta Kroger employee took third in the grocery store chain's Georgia "Bag-Off" competition. The grocer's top nine baggers competed for a chance to represent Kroger at the Georgia Food Industry Association's "Bag-Off" competition in July.

Collier Hostler of Alpharetta, and the top finalists, will all receive scholarships for their success in the competition.

Troy Yearby, a Kroger associate from Athens and student at Valdosta State University, was the winner. Justin Wood of Rome took second place.

“We extend our congratulations to all of the competitors in this year’s ‘Bag-Off,’” said Glynn Jenkins, director of communications and public relations for Kroger’s Atlanta Division, in a news release.. 

This year’s “Bag-Off” took place on June 27 at the Cumming Highway Kroger in Sugar Hill. The top baggers across the state were judged on the proper way to pack a grocery bag, including weight distribution, speed, technique, overall style, appearance and attitude.

Georgia’s best bagger will be invited to compete against the nation’s top baggers at the National Grocers Association Best Baggers Contest in Las Vegas.
