The man who called 911 dispatchers, who identified himself as an off-duty cop, said a man wearing a blue ball cap in a white van bearing an Alabama license plate allegedly pulled a gun on him at the intersection of Old Milton and Westside Parkway, according to an incident report released by the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety.
An officer who responded to the scene located the van in question, and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle.
Its driver, identified as 25-year-old Micah Stuart Wolverton of Birmingham, Alabama, exited the vehicle when asked and was detained while the officer investigated the incident.
The off-duty officer said he was traveling eastbound on Old Milton Parkway and made a U-turn at the thoroughfare’s intersection with Westside Parkway. While doing so, the off-duty cop said a white van turning eastbound onto Old Milton Parkway from southbound Westside Parkway “failed to yield onto Old Milton Parkway.”
The cop said he changed lanes to avoid hitting the van and when he slowed down, the van pulled up beside him and Wolverton allegedly said, “You made an illegal U-turn.” The off-duty cop disagreed, and told Wolverton he failed to yield to oncoming traffic.
At that time, Wolverton became “very upset and picked up a small model Glock pistol,” the report states.
According to the report, Wolverton allegedly “pointed the weapon forward and cocked it.“ After performing that maneuver, the cop said Wolverton drove off.
Another officer who responded as back up searched the van and found a Glock model 30 -- which had one round in its chamber -- in the center console area of the van, the incident report states.
However, according to Wolverton, he was traveling along Old Milton Parkway when he “moved his Glock from the front passenger seat to the center console.”
Wolverton was booked into the Fulton Count Jail for processing, and was subsequently released on a $3,000 bond the following day.
The van was impounded, and the firearm, magazine, ten rounds of .45 cal ammunition and a holster recovered from the vehicle were all entered into evidence in relation to the incident.
