Man Accused Of Stealing Packages From Alpharetta Doorsteps

The male subject was allegedly caught with various items stuffed down the front of his pants.

ALPHARETTA, GA -- Alpharetta police have arrested a man accused of snooping around homes and allegedly taking mail and packages from the mailboxes and doorsteps of residents. Jonathan Blair Genetelli was taken into custody this week and charged in connection to several thefts reported in the Windward area of the city.

Officers were dispatched to a call around 3:43 p.m. Monday, July 10 at a home on Blackheath Trce and met with the victim, who said she placed two packages for the United States Postal Service to retrieve around 2 p.m.

"She was contacted by the postal service representative and informed the packages had been opened," according to an incident report released by the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety.

The woman inspected the package, and found a pair of Louis Vuitton shoes valued at $600 had been taken, the report states.

Before answering the call, the officer and his two counterparts responded to a suspicious person call in the same neighborhood. That person, described as a white male wearing red shorts, was allegedly going through mailboxes. The male, identified as Jonathan Blair Genetelli, was later tracked down at the intersection of Blackheath Trce and Portmarnock Drive.

According to another incident report released by the department, Genetelli allegedly had a pair of shoes, a USB cable and a Nintendo Wii adapter stuffed down the front of his pants. Genetelli was taken into custody and charged with criminal trespassing.

The Alpharetta Department of Public Safety said on its Facebook page that a homeowner previously provided the agency with photos captured by his surveillance camera after he had mail and packages stolen from his doorstep. Officers began conducting surveillance in the neighborhood to identify and locate the male subject.

After the woman on Blackheath Trce called police to report the alleged theft, police responded to the scene and subsequently were able to link Genetelli with five additional mail/package thefts in the area, it noted.

"Thanks to concerned citizens and good police work, other crimes will be solved," the department added.

Department of Public Safety Spokesperson George Gordon said Genetelli was provided a court date where he will answer to the charges.
