Man Charged With Threatening North Georgia Professor: GBI

ALPHARETTA, GA — An Alpharetta man has been charged with threatening a professor at the University of North Georgia, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said. Jose Anibal Gomez, 23, is charged with one count of making terroristic threats and acts in connection to the incident, the agency said.

GBI agents were asked on Aug. 1 to help the University of North Georgia Police Department in an investigation related to alleged "threats of violence" made to a professor at the campus in Dahlonega. The GBI notes the threats were made by email and letter, and involved using gun violence towards the professor, UNG staff members and students if the professor did not resign, the GBI said.

An investigation led police to arrest Gomez, who was apprehended Aug. 4 at his home by officers with the Alpharetta Police Department.

Gomez was transported to the Lumpkin County Jail, and he will face the charges in Lumpkin County Superior Court, the GBI added.
