Mayor's Challenge Raises Over $100,000
The 5k race saw over 2,000 registered. The winning runner beat the course in just 17:25!

ALPHARETTA-MILTON, GA - From the Rotary Club of Alpharetta: The Rotary Club of Alpharetta teamed up with LexisNexis and the City of Alpharetta to host the 21st annual Mayor’s Corporate Challenge. The Mayor’s Challenge raised over 100,000 dollars from its corporate sponsors and race participants. The proceeds from the race will go towards helping local non-profit organizations as well as humanitarian efforts abroad. The race started and finished in front of the newly constructed City Hall in the heart of downtown Alpharetta. 2,156 people registered for the race—the largest number in the history of the race. Out of those registered, 1,387 crossed the starting line and 1,364 crossed the finish line. The first, second and third place runners for men were Derek Bovard at 17:24.97, Simon Black at 18:04.87, and Chad Mayo at 19:45.47; the first, second and third place runners for women were Regan Wueste at 20:26.26, Angela Onate at 20:40.59, and Madison Stenger at 21:29.02.
The Mayor’s Challenge event featured music, food trucks, and a Kids Fun Run as a kick-off before the 5K
race started. Once the starting gun was fired, race participants followed Haynes Bridge Road onto
Academy Street, then up Westside Parkway, and finished the final stretch down Old Milton Parkway back
to City Hall. The race had a large corporate presence with the team shirts of the race’s many corporate
sponsors scattered throughout the crowd including LexisNexis, DataScan, Fiserv, Audi of North Atlanta,
Exide Technologies, LeasePlan, Siemens, WellStar North Fulton Hospital, Capital Mortgage Advisors,
Choate Construction, Marsh & McLennan Agency, LLC, Neenah Paper, Inc., and Oxygen Financial.
With some running and others walking, the race took a little over an hour to wrap up, and after the final few participants crossed the line, the crowd continued to enjoy music and food at City Hall. The Mayor’s Challenge organizer, Joe Wargo, said “It’s an honor to partner with corporate and civic leaders on an event that is not only fun, but also has a positive impact on those who need help in our community.”
