Milton Celebrates National Police Week With Events

The Police Department will host a #BackTheBlue Blood Drive, active shooter seminar and a document shredding event.

MILTON, GA — National Police Week is just around the corner, and the city of Milton has a number of events planned to commemorate the law enforcement officers who dedicate their lives protecting the public.

The city will host several community events such as Coffee with a Cop and its annual #BackTheBlue Blood Drive. Residents are also invited to join the Milton Police Department for its annual awards ceremony, which will be held 6-7 p.m. Friday, May 18.

Other events planned for National Police Week, which runs May 12-19, include:

Saturday, May 12

  • Coffee with a Cop, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Laurel & May, 12630 Crabapple Road
  • Police Explorers Fundraiser, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Chipotle, 5250 Windward Parkway

Monday, May 14

  • #BackTheBlue Blood Drive, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Stonecreek Church, 13540 Highway 9 (Click here to RSVP using MPD as the sponsor code).

Tuesday, May 15

  • #ProtectYourPrivacy Secured Shredding Event, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. (or until truck is full) at Milton Police Department, 13000 Deerfield Parkway Suite 107F
  • Active Shooter Safety Seminar, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Milton Police Department

Friday, May 18

  • Annual Awards Ceremony, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Milton City Hall, 2006 Heritage Walk (Click here to RSVP)

National Police Week began in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which it occurs as Police Week, according to the National Police Week website. Thousands of law enforcement officers make the trip to Washington, D.C., to participate in events that pay tribute to their comrades who lost their lives while on duty.
