Milton High Student Opens For Icon Rock Band, Blondie
Armed with a soulful voice and an acoustic guitar, 15-year-old Lexie Babin is making a name for herself in the music world.
The eighties band Blondie rocked the night away last Friday at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in a concert titled "Blondie for Boobies" that was promoted by radio station B98.5 in support of breast cancer awareness.
Before the crowd enjoyed familiar classics like "You've Got To Fight For Your Right To Party," a 15-year-old Milton High School student, Lexie Babin, reminded everyone what the night was about with her song "Remember".
Lexie's dad works with Atlanta radio and when a colleague heard Lexie's song, they tought it'd be a great addition to the benefit concert because of its heartfelt message.

As a tribute to those who have been affected by breast cancer "Remember" begins with "Wipe away those tears, I know you're in pain" and continues as a comforting reminder of hope.
Babin explains her motivation behind the song,

"I know how many people are effected by losing someone you love and I thought maybe I could write a song to make people feel better and let them know it’s OK to continue living your dreams."
Lexie knows all too well the devastation of breast cancer. She lost her grandmother five years ago to the terrible illness and most recently has watched a close friend lose her mother. That is what inspired the song says Lexie.
"I wanted to let her know that I’m there for her and inspire her by the song."
So how does a young, aspiring artist react when finding out that they'll be opening for a band that has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?
"I was very shocked, I was so excited and couldn’t wait," explains Babin.
Shocked, yes. Nervous, not so much.
"I was used to being on stage, it is like second nature to me. I felt comfortable and I was filled with mixed emotions; thankful, happy, and excited."
Lexie's dad, Rob Babin, is understandably proud of his daughter and describes his emotions that day as mixed.
"During the sound check, when no one was in the amphitheater, I was so nervous and she just grabbed her guitar and walked up to the mic like it was second nature. During the performance, I was truly excited for her."
At 15, Blondie is well before Lexie's time but she knows the music well.
"I remember playing guitar hero and playing their song 'Call Me' over and over again. I like their music it is cool and different and the music is really good," she says.
When she's not opening for iconic eighties bands, Lexie sings harmonies and plays lead guitar for the local band Fear of Silence. However, she hopes of bigger things for her future and has just recently branched out as a solo artist.
"A dream of mine would be to write music that people can relate to, that people can connect to, and that makes people feel better about themselves,” says Babin.
With a bright musical future ahead of her, Lexie still isn't taking her education for granted. She loves attending Milton High School and says her favorite class is literature.
"I would love to be a singer/songwriter and play guitar for a living but of course I am preparing for collage and haven’t decided what I want to study yet," says Lexie.
This makes dad happy, "My wife and I are very excited and supportive of her, and we both want her to fulfill her talent potential! But I also want her to stay focused on her schoolwork and preparing for college. "
So what's next for Lexie it the world of music? Making a name for herself and being known for her songwriting is numero uno.
"I feel like the next step would be playing more shows and getting my name out there. Also, continuing to write original music. I have three originals at the moment and I am working on more to come," shares Babin.
Proud dad can't stop gushing about all his daughter has accomplished.
"It’s just fun to see her grow through music. When she was younger, she was so shy but when she would play that guitar in front of a crowd, she’d come out of her shell. It’s really fun to see her recent passion for songwriting and performing her songs for people. My wife and I are extremely proud of Lexie, and will continue to support her music talent development."
While parents are prone to brag about their children it doesn't take much to see that therFe's a very bright future for Ms. Lexie Babin.
