Milton Historical Society To Host Civil War Lecture

Spear will discuss among other topics the demographical impact of the war and the history and role of the Milton Guards combat unit.

From Milton Historical Society: The Milton Historical Society announces the first in a series of presentations on historical topics pertinent to Milton. Civil War historian Kevin Spear will make a presentation at the Milton Public Library, October 17 at 6:45 pm titled “The Impact of the Civil War on Old Milton County.”

Spear will discuss among other topics the demographical impact of the war and the history and role of the Milton Guards combat unit. He will be assisted by Kirk Miller who will describe life in Milton Country during the war years and by Bob Meyers who will profile his great grandfather John Shirley who fought in the war. Spear said “History should be exciting as well as informative. The Civil War had a major and lasting impact on this area, and my goal is to present a lively and challenging view of that period in our history.” The presentation will include time for Q&A, and various Civil War implements will be on display. “I encourage attendees to pick up the artifacts because that will strengthen a sense of connection with the past,” Spear stated.
