With Junior Sam Bowers leading the way with his STATE CHAMPIONSHIP in the 3200m run, Milton captured it's first state boys track trophy since 1966! The Eagles (4th-39 pts) bested 26 scoring schools to earn a team trophy for only the 4th time in school history. Bowers state title in the 3200m run (1st-9:16.32) broke the school record that was set in 1999 and is the first individual boys state title in over 13 years. Bowers came back to also place 3rd in the 1600m (3rd-4:16.41) matching the old school record. Fellow junior Michael Malkowski was runner-up in the 1600m (2nd-4:15.63) and broke the old school record (4:16.41) and just missed winning the state title by 12/1000ths of a second (see photo!). Malkowski came back to place 8th in the 800m to score additional team points for Milton. Sophomore Matthew Mazzacano (3rd-14') improved on his personal best by close to a foot to score valuable points in the pole vault. His performance is the 3rd best in school history. Fellow juniors Nicholas Yanek in the 3200m (5th-9:23.49) and Davis Smith in the long jump (5th-22'8") added more team points towards the 4th place honor. Smith improved on his personal best by close to 6 inches besting jumpers that had beaten him at the county & region meets.
The Lady Eagles were represented as well as Milton (29th-4.5 pts) bested 10 schools. Freshman Faith Bobak led the charge. Bobak (5th-11:13.38) ran to her 2nd best effort in the 3200m run. Senior Cara Doll also scored for Milton in the pole vault (8th-9'6") to earn a podium spot. Also competing at the state meet for the Lady Eagles were fellow seniors Marie Repasy (10th-11:31.86) in the 3200m & Ryleigh Harris (15th-34'3") in the triple jump. Picture to follow in email!
