The Milton HS track & field team will send its largest contingent of athletes to the GHSA Sectional T&F meet on Saturday, April 26th at McEachern HS in Powder Springs, GA! These athletes qualified due to their top-4 finish at the Region 5-AAAAAA meet this past April 16-17 held at Roswell HS.  Even with many athletes moving on to sectionals, the Eagles were only able to place 6th (Boys-59 pts) (Girls-80 pts) out of 8 competing schools.

The Lady Eagles had a big two days but it was the last event of the meet where are the fireworks happened. The team of Eliza Meng, Lydia McGinnis, Anne Neenan & Devon Artis combined on the 4x400m relay to not only finish 2nd place and qualify for the sectional meet, they ran a time of 4:09.16 to break the Milton school record of 4:10.30 that was set in 1976!  Senior Devon Artis continued on as well to a another impressive meet with her runner-up finish in the 400m (58.27) and her 4th place finish in the 200m (26.66) and along with running a leg on the runner-up 4x100m relay team (50.53) which was the 5th fastest time in school history!  Joining Artis in four events at the sectional meet is Kia Carson. Along with her carry on the 4x100 relay, Carson was the overwhelming winner in the 100m (12.73), was runner-up in the 200m (26.13) and was 3rd in the long jump (16’3”).  Simone Harford, also running a leg on the 4x100m relay, also qualified for the sectional meet with her 4th place in the 100m hurdles (17.04).  Eliza Meng also ran on the 4x100 relay and will run both relays at the sectional meet.  Milton also had 2 sectional meet qualifiers in the 800m with Anne Neenan running a personal best in the final to take 2nd in 2:23.65 and Amy Ruiz (4th-2:26.25) with a over 3 second PR as well.

BOYS

Milton will send two field event athletes and four track event runners to the sectional meet.  In the field events, Corey Claiborne continues his fine season with a 3rd place effort in the discus of 129’9”.  Connor McNamarra matched his personal best and became the 3rd consecutive Milton pole vaulter to qualify for the sectional meet with his 3rd place leap of 11’6”!  For the running events, the Eagles had Nick Harford run a strong race in the 110m hurdles and score a personal best with his 16.24 to place 4th and advance to the sectional meet.  One of the big surprises for the Eagles was the running of Zach Davis. His gallant effort in the 400m in both his preliminary heat (52.56) and then in the final (52.28) were personal bests and placed him 4th in both!  Just like the girls, the boys 800m proved the biggest fireworks on the boys side as top-seeds Kevin McGorrey & Jack Bluth had another thrilling finish and placed 2nd & 4th respectively going 1:58.73 & 1:58.95 in what many were calling one of the best races of the meet as the first 4 finishers were separated by less than 1.4 seconds!
