As she has done all season long, senior Kia Carson led the Lady Eagles qualifying for the state meet in three of the four events she competed in with improved-on school records in the 100 meters and the long jump and a personal best as well in the 200 meters.  In the long jump, Carson became the first Lady Eagle to jump over 17 feet with her 17’1/2” leap (5th) and then followed that up with a wind-legal 12.22 100 meters (7th)!  In the 200 meters her 25.20 was a personal best and good for 7th & a trip to Albany & the state meet.  Senior Devon Artist took down her personal best & her current school record in the 400 meters with her 56.77 good for 6th place!  Milton’s girls also re-set the 4x400m relay record running a 4:05.79 to place 11th. The team of sophomore Eliza Meng, sophomore Lydia McGinnis, junior Anne Neenan & senior Devon Artis, which took 38 years to break the initial record only took 8 days to lower it again by close to 4 seconds!  Another big highlight was the girl’s 4x100m relay (also 11th place) which ran the 2nd best time ever in school history! The team of Meng, Artis, sophomore Simone Harford & Carson clocked 49.48 missing the school record by 1/10th of a second!  Also competing for the Lady Eagles were Simone Harford in the 100m hurdles (17.47), along with junior’s Anne Neenan (2:26.25) & Amy Ruiz (2:26.44) in the 800 meters.

BOYS

Milton stamped its first state qualifier in the first field event of the meet as junior Corey Claiborne-Landy launched the discus 133’4” to place 6th and punch his ticket to Jefferson! It was many hours later when the Eagles had their final two qualifiers as when the dust settled in the 800 meters, both Milton athletes were headed to the state meet. In the first heat of the 800 meters, senior Kevin McGorrey placed 3rd in 1:59.59 to snag the final qualifying spot. In the second heat, sophomore Jack Bluth bided his time in a much faster race than the first heat and ran a 1.4 second personal best (4th all-time in school history) of 1:57.47 to place 4th in the heat and in the meet overall.  Fellow Eagles competing at the meet included senior Zach Davis in the 400 meters (52.40) and senior Nick Harford in the 110 meter hurdles (16.39).

The girls will compete in the GHSA State Track & Field Championship at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany, GA, May 2-3 and the boys will be at Memorial Stadium in Jefferson, GA for the GHSA State Track & Field Championships on May 8-10.
