Milton JV Cross Country Teams Find Success at River Run

The flat & fast course at Chattahoochee Pointe Park produces many personal all-time bests

9/27/14

By Coach Andy Carr

Host Lambert HS configured a flat & fast layout at Chattahoochee Pointe Park in Cumming, GA which saw many JV Eagle runners achieve and break many personal best times. Milton rested its top-runners after winning the Fulton County Championships the previous weekend and focused on the junior varsity team and came away with some high team finishes as well.

JV Girls

The Lady Eagles as a team got a not-so-great start of the race but rallied in the middle section of the course to place a surprising 3rd overall (93 pts)! Peachtree Ridge (1st-31 pts) & Chattahoochee (2nd-79 pts) bested Milton while the Lady Eagles dispatched 11 scoring teams. Milton was led by the freshman duo of Addy Prescott (5th-21:47) & Annie Gallagher (7th-22:06). Prescott came on in the 2nd mile to catch the leader’s chase-group and record a big personal best. Gallagher followed-up her strong race at Fulton County to help put two Milton runners on the awards stand! Fellow sophomores Alyssa Milton (22nd-22:54) & Kylie Noonan (27th-23:16) were next and then the big race from senior Sydney Versteeg (32nd-23:21) closed out the scoring. Senior Jillian Draughon (34th-23:25) & freshman Jesse Barnes (36th-23:21) rounded out the Lady Eagles top-7 runners. There were 272 finishers.

JV Boys

Milton continued to show its dominance and followed-up their resounding Fulton County victory by placing their top-6 finishers in the top-12 places to win the meet! The Eagles (1st-31 pts) outdistanced Northview (2nd-62 pts), Johns Creek (3rd-106 pts) along with 14 other schools to claim the top-spot! Returning back from injury, sophomore Michael McCarthy (2nd-17:13) ran in the second position the entire race to lead the Milton effort. McCarthy’s first race in over 3 weeks led a Milton charge of finishers in the top-10 overall places. Milton placed all five of their scoring runners before many teams had two finishers in the race. Breakout races by the freshman Ryan Beitzell (4th-18:06) & Dru Milton (5th-18:08) were all-time bests. Senior Alex Butterwick (9th-18:21) garnered the last individual award for Milton but right after him the Eagles had three more finishers to easily secure the victory. Sophomores Andy Butzow (11th-18:24) & Joey Brovont (12th-18:25) led Milton to putting more than half the finishers of the race at that point. Fellow sophomore Lincoln Taddy (31st-18:51) closed out the Eagles of their top seven finishers. This was the largest race of the day with 285 finishers.

The Milton Eagles Cross Country Teams next see action on Saturday, Oct 11th at the Gene Mullin Invitation at Furman University in Greenville, SC.
