Milton Promotes Heritage With Historic Marker Project

Twenty-eight markers have been installed at various sites around the city as part of its wayfinding signage project.

MILTON, GA — As part of a citizen-led initiative, the city of Milton has added custom-designed markers that commemorate sites, people and events significant to its history.

Over the last month, 28 markers were installed around Milton as part of the city's overall wayfinding signage project. Milton residents and marker volunteers, Joan Borzilleri, Norman Broadwell, Bill Lusk, and Bob Meyers, spent the last year identifying marker locations, researching and drafting marker texts to ensure accuracy, and working with property owners to secure installation approval.

City staff and citizen volunteers collaborated with designers from Cooper Carry to design the markers and local manufacturer CanAm Signs & Imaging to produce the markers, which are made of cast aluminum with raised bronze letters on a black background and include the Milton city seal in the top left. Depending on the site, the marker is either mounted on posts or on the side of a building.

In addition to the markers project, the volunteers are working with city staff to include a history room in Milton City Hall. In addition, a map of the markers will be available on the city's website at a later date.
