Milton Reminds Residents Of Fireworks Laws For New Year's Eve
The city of Milton is reminding residents of state and local fireworks restrictions, and to be considerate of human and pet neighbors.

MILTON, GA — If you and your family are celebrating the New Year with fireworks, the city of Milton wants you to use caution, be fire-aware and, of course be courteous of your neighbors.
If your plans of ringing in 2018 involve fireworks, the city wants you to remember these important state and local fireworks restrictions:
- State law permits fireworks use on Dec. 31 up until midnight and into Jan. 1 ending at 1 a.m.
- Milton's new noise ordinance prohibits fireworks use from 1:01 a.m. to 10 a.m. on the Jan. 1 holiday, and 9:01 p.m. to 10 a.m. on a normal day (state law defines a normal day as any day other than Jul. 3, Jul. 4, Dec. 31, and Jan. 1).
- No fireworks may be used in or on a public road.
- No fireworks within 100 yards of a gas station/fuel tank, electric substation, hospital, nursing home or other health care facility, or within county/city parks, historic sites, recreational areas or other public property without a permit.
- No fireworks may be used while under the influence of alcohol or any drug.
Milton residents can call 911 to report a violation of any of the above restrictions. Keep in mind that residents in adjacent cities/counties do not have to adhere to Milton's after-hours local noise ordinance regarding fireworks.

If you have neighbors with equine or other livestock, sensitive pets or your neighbor is a military veteran, please reconsider personal fireworks use and, at a minimum, notify your neighbors of your personal plan for fireworks. Notifying neighbors helps everyone better prepare for the noise and helps ensure the health and safety of large animals.
