Milton To Residents: Country Club Remains Closed

The tennis and swim areas have been opened for use during the 2018 seasons. However, you can not walk the golf course or other areas.

MILTON, GA — While the city has opened some parts of the former Milton Country Club property for use, officials are reminding the residents that the bulk of the property remains closed to the public.

The tennis and swim areas have opened for use for the 2018 seasons, but the golf course areas and golf cart paths remain closed. Residents are also prohibited from walking the course and from accessing areas other than the designated swim and tennis areas.

Milton staff members and the city attorney are working to resolve issues surrounding the easements of the golf course and cart path. Until those easements are officially abandoned, and until the city finalizes the removal process for any existing golf cart path sections that cross into private property, the public is strictly prohibited from entering the course areas or using the cart path for any activity.

"It's important that we are good neighbors by adhering to the park closure signs," City Manager Steven Krokoff said. "Adjacent neighbors have been advised to contact the Milton Police Department when individuals are found on the course."

"We're eager to get the community planning process underway with our residents this summer," said Milton Parks and Recreation Director Jim Cregge. "We want to get the greenspace portion of the property opened as quickly as possible, but not at the expense of developing a solid master plan that incorporates our citizens' input."

Since the purchase of the property in January, city staff have worked to open the tennis and swim facilities for the 2018 season. Milton worked with long-time Country Club tennis pro Terre O'Brien to continue organized tennis teams and instruction, and opened the courts to the public as well.

Earlier this week, the city announced that it would open the pool for the 2018 swim season for use by the Milton Mustangs Swim Team and the community this summer. There are more than 40 tennis teams, 81 swim team participants, and 85 residents have purchased a pool season pass to date.

"Thanks to the collaborative efforts of our city staff, Milton swim team parents, and other community volunteers, we were able to continue the swim team for the 2018 season," said Mayor Joe Lockwood.

Another note from the city: while the swim team anticipates continued temporary street-side parking along the adjacent neighborhoods as in past years, the previously used golf cart paths are now private property and no longer offer public access to the pool and tennis areas. Swim meet participants must walk out and up to the Dinsmore Road main entrance.
