Milton Student To Compete in National High School Musical Theater Awards

The event known as The Jimmy Awards will take place June 29 at the Minskoff Theater on Broadway in New York City.

A Milton High School student will join another student from Forsyth County as they travel to New York City next week to compete in the seventh annual National High School Musical Theater Awards.

McKenzie Kurtz and West Forsyth High School student Nick Eibler are in the running for The Jimmy Awards, which will take place June 29 at the Minskoff Theatre on Broadway.

McKenzie and Nick will represent the Georgia High School Musical Theater Awards, known as the Shuler Hensley Awards, at the competition. McKenzie won the 2015 Shuler Leading Actress award for her role as Mary Poppins in Mary Poppins and Nick won the 2015 Shuler Leading Actor award for his role as Jimmy Winter in Nice Work If You Can Get It.

McKenzie and Nick’s journey will begin June 24 with a week-long theatre intensive that concludes June 30. They will compete against young performers from across the country for the coveted JimmyTM Award, as well as merit scholarships and professional opportunities.

Natalie Barrow of ArtsBridge Foundation, the director of the Shuler Awards, will accompany McKenzie and Nick on their journey.
