Milton Successful at GHSA Track Sectionals

Eagle Track Team Qualifies 11 athletes to State Track & Field Championships

The Milton HS track & field team qualified 11 total athletes today to compete in the GHSA 7A Championships to be held at McEachern HS May 11-13 in Powder Springs, GA.

GIRLS

The Lady Eagles will be sending five athletes in four events to the state meet. Leading the charge will be junior Ella Grace Malcom. In the 800m (3rd-2:17.50) and the 1600m (3rd-5:17.20) Malcom will be a contender for a state championship. Joining Malcom in the 800m (4th-2:18.12) will be senior captain Sydney Anderson whose personal best makes her the 4th best performer in school history. And closing out the individual qualifiers, senior captain Emmaline Kelley will compete in the 3200m (8th-11:54.45) after racing to a personal best & grabbing the last qualifying spot. Both Anderson & Kelley will join juniors Emerson Armistead & Leelah Dennis on the 4x800m relay (2nd-10:02.39) that qualified for the state meet with their runner-up finish and the 9th best performance in school history! Also competing at the sectional meet was sophomore Brynn Sheel who ran the 100m hurdles (14th-17.17) to become the 9th best performer in school history, the 300m hurdles (15th-49.67) & was a member of the 4x400m relay (12th-4:11.89) along with Anderson, Dennis & Malcom to run the 8th best performance in school history.

BOYS

Milton will send six athletes in five events to the GHSA state 7A championship meet next week. As he has done all season, senior captain Devin Dahunsi, the University of South Alabama committ, will be a contender in 2 events, the long jump (2nd-23’1.5”) & the triple jump (2nd-45’2”) where he is the school record holder. In 2022 Dahunsi was 4th & 3rd in those events at the state meet. Junior Zach Patell is another double qualifier for the Eagles. Patell will run the 800m (8th-1:57.86) & will be a member of the 4x800m relay (2nd-8:05.50) team with seniors Andrew Ramsey, Brandon Sevel & junior Luke Erbey, that were runners-up in the 4th best performance in school history! Closing out the qualifiers is senior Cory Chambers, the George Washington University committ, whose 1600m (5th-4:25.72) returns him to the state meet where he finished 11th in 2022. Also competing at the sectional meet were senior Andrew Ramsey in the 800m (9th-1:58.13) & junior Andrew Sirras in the 200m (14th-22.78) & 400m (14th-50.95).

The GHSA State 7A Championship Meet will take place at McEachern HS in Powder Springs, GA this Thursday-Saturday, May 11-13 with field events & the 4x800m on the 11th, the 3200m & 800m prelims on the 12th & the 1600m & 800m finals on the 13th. Best of luck Eagles!
