Milton Track Hosts Successful 11th Showcase Invitational

Multiple stadium and school records fall as the Milton High School Eagles host 17 schools.

17 teams traveled to Milton this past weekend to compete in the 1th Annual Milton T&F Showcase meet, one of the largest meets contested in the north metro-Atlanta area, which saw many top-state and national leading performances.

Girls

The War Hawks of Mill Creek (1st-126.5 pts) took the team title over a very competitive Cambridge (2nd-116.7 pts) squad. Johns Creek (95.7 pts) & host Milton followed (71.5 pts). The individual highlight of the meet was the new stadium record by Walton junior Tia Jones in the 100m Hurdles (1st-13.27). Jones performance not only broke her own stadium mark from her freshman year (13.76) but established the fastest time run in the nation this outdoor season. The Raiders of Alpharetta reset their stadium mark in the 800m Sprint Medley Relay (1st-1:51.06) after watching the first two sections lower their previous stadium record from 1:53.11. The host Eagles saw a new school record in the 5000m by junior Taylor Cushman (1st-18:51.12) besting the old mark by close to 15 seconds! The Lady Eagles had one other meet victory in the 1500m by senior (and Georgia Tech commit) Annie Gallagher (1st-5:00.35).

Boys

Mill Creek (1st-167 pts) took command late in the meet to pull away from host Milton (2nd-139.16 pts) & Alpharetta (3rd-96 pts) and win the overall title as well. Field events ruled the day as new stadium marks were set in the Shot Put & Pole Vault both by the current record holders. In the shot, Roswell’s Nate Wansley (1st-56’8.5”) surpassed his current mark by over 7 feet! Alpharetta’s Jamal Ellis (2nd-54’4.5”) also surpassed the old mark by 3 inches! In the Pole Vault, West Forsyth’s Jack Haller (1st-14’7”) broke his current stadium record by an inch to win the event. The meet actually stopped as Haller attempted & cleared the record height performance on his first try. Milton set a couple of school records in their runner up team performance. The Eagles highlight was the running of senior Solomon Vanhorse in winning both the 100m (1st-10.90) and the 200m (1st-21.98) with the 100m performance a new school record breaking the old record of 10.91 set in 2011. Senior Ryan Beitzell won both the 1500m (1st-4:15.12) & the 2-mile (1st-9:58.08) and setting the school record in the 2-mile by just a half-second! Other Milton meet victories came from senior Sam Bowers in the 5000m (1st15:21.30) and senior Davis Smith in the Long Jump (1st-22’9”).
