Milton Track Opens Season at Marietta Distance Carnival

The Eagle track team opened it’s 2019 campaign at a “distance only” track meet event hosted by Marietta High School and came away with one school record and many early-season personal bests.

GIRLS

The highlight of the meet for Milton was the new school record in the 2000 meter Steeplechase by senior captain Taylor Cushman (2nd-8:07.66). In her first time contesting the event, the Georgia Tech signee used her superior running ability to overcome her hurdling inexperience to work her way through the field to finish as runner-up. In the 1600m, sophomore Audrey Nichols (17th-5:44.76) 4-second personal best led the Lady Eagles as fellow sophomores Paige Chambers & Audrey Minton along with freshman Ella Rindt & Megan Erbey also competed in the event with most notching personal bests. In the 3200m, freshman Jessica Albregts ran to a 30-second personal best (22nd-13:15.72). Milton finished 10th out of 13 scoring teams.

BOYS

The 2000m Steeplechase took center stage again as seniors Luke Bonneville (5th-6:50.36) and team captain Gary Halverson (6th-6:59.23) scored the Eagles lone team points while running the #3 & #5 times in school history. The 1600m saw a strong race by sophomore Hayden Marshall (11th-4:46.23) and personal bests by freshman Andrew Baum (5:12.28), Charlie Reynolds (5:14.65) & Will Buchanan (5:38.80). Seniors Anish Gupta (12th-2:08.40) running a 3-second personal best, Nick Butzow (22nd-2:14.41) & Michael Barton (2:20.32) led the Milton contingent in the 800 meters. The Eagles were 14th out of 18 scoring teams.

The Eagle track teams are next in action on Wednesday, Feb 20th at Roswell HS for dual meet & then return again to Roswell on Saturday, Feb 23rd for their annual 8-Way meet with many schools from the North Fulton area.
