Milton Track Teams Come In 3rd At Opening Season Meet

Multiple top-10 all-time performances lead the way for the Eagles

ROSWELL, GA — Milton’s first outdoor meet of the season saw the Eagles finish third for both the boys and girls' teams in a seven-team meet contested at Roswell High School. Woodward Academy was the overall meet winner (boys and girls scores combined).

The Eagles boys score of 102 points was two shy of second and the girls team tallied 119 points to edge out Hebron Christian, Forsyth Central, Chattahoochee and Centennial high schools.

Individual victories came from the track & the field as Milton began its quest for a second consecutive state meet trophy (fourth in 2017). Seniors Davis Smith, who won the long jump (22’3.5”) & Ryan Beitzell, who won the 1600m (4:37.77) paced the boy’s team effort. A big win in the Distance Medley Relay by the team of seniors Sam Bowers, Mark Seaman, Beitzell and Dru Milton (10:59.62), which was the fourth fastest ever in school history closed out the top-scoring for the Eagles. The boys 4x100m relay (42.96), in finishing 2nd, ran the schools 3rd best performance ever in school history!

GIRLS

Led by senior Colleen Williams in the throws, including a personal best in the shot put & the running of the Distance Medley Relay team, the Lady Eagles posted top-10 all time marks on their way to a 3rd place finish. Williams winning toss of 32’8” was the fifth best ever at Milton and a personal best by 7 inches! She followed that up with a winning throw of 89’3.5” in the discus and miss her best by a little more than a foot. The other victory for the Lady Eagles was in the Distance Medley Relay.

Attempting to set the school record, the team of seniors Emily Bowers, Jocie Toner, Annie Gallagher and junior Taylor Cushman ran to a 13:13.78 to win the event, even lapping the entire field, running the third best performance in school history. That same team came back 10 minutes later to run the 4x400m relay to garner runner-up honors.

The Eagle track teams travel back to Roswell for a junior varsity meet on Wed. Feb. 28 and host the 11th Milton T&F Showcase meet on Friday, March 2 and Saturday, March 3. On the evening of March 2, the Milton Boys Cross Country team will celebrate its 2017 state championship with a ring ceremony midway through the meet.
