Northwinds Parkway Extension Project Ribbon Cutting
The $6 million project is expected to alleviate traffic on Georgia 400.
From Brandware PR: The North Fulton Community Improvement District (CID) today marked the completion of the Northwinds Parkway Extension Project with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9:30 a.m. The extension creates a direct connection from Kimball Bridge Road to Old Milton Parkway.
The $6 million project was a joint effort by the North Fulton CID, the Georgia Department of Transportation and the City of Alpharetta to build out Northwinds Parkway from where it previously ended at Kimball Bridge Road to meet Old Milton Parkway. This enhancement offers an alternate route for those traveling to and from the growing collection of commercial, residential and entertainment areas in Alpharetta.
“We are excited about this new connection between two vital activity centers within our community,” said Kerry Armstrong, North Fulton CID board chairman. “This punch-through will relieve traffic on Georgia 400 and provide vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians a safe, alternate route.”

In addition to improving connectivity for the City of Alpharetta and the broader North Fulton community, the Northwinds Parkway Extension benefits the Gwinnett Technical College Alpharetta-North Fulton Campus, Avalon and the new Jackson Healthcare Alpharetta campus. The extension includes the addition of a traffic light at the Northwinds-Old Milton intersection and an entrance on the east side of the school.
“We are thrilled the community now has access to the various districts in Alpharetta through the Northwinds Parkway extension,” said Alpharetta Mayor Belle Isle. “With the residential and commercial areas around Old Milton Parkway growing exponentially, this connection is essential to the overall connectivity of Alpharetta.”

The project was originally conceived by the North Fulton CID and local community and business leaders in 2007. The northern half of the roadway was completed in September of 2016 and Pulte Homes recently completed the southern section as part of a residential development.
