Off Broadway Kids Troupe Comes Home With National Honors
Milton-based Kids Musical Theater Troupe earns awards at the National Performing Arts Festival.
A performance of Aladdin Jr. earned the Kids Musical Theater Troupe national awards and recognition, according to the group's publicity chairperson.
The troupe received the awards at the National Performing Arts Festival for their performance held in Orlando, FL on Feb. 27-28.
The troupe, consisting of children ages 7-17, received a superior rating in the festival and received the Judges Award, earning them the honor of performing Friend Like Me on a Disney stage.

The troupe received a 95, 96 and a 99 out of 100 from the judges based on national standards. In addition, Off Broadway cast members Owen Smith, age 11 (as the Genie); Barrett Crowder, age 14, (as Aladdin); Anu Romesh, age 14, (as Jasmine); and Alexandra Langlais, age 7, (Ensemble), won individual awards for "Outstanding Performance by an Actor/Actress."
The festival provides the opportunity for high school and middle school drama students to compete in musical theater competition.

In addition, the Off Broadway troupe participated in private feedback clinics led by a top theater professional, specialized acting and audition workshops, and a behind-the-scenes Tech Tour at Walt Disney World.
