I have been talking about the renewed presence of shades of purple in the interior design industry since last fall’s High Point Furnishings Market, and now it is official- Radiant Orchid has been named the 2014 Pantone Color of the Year.
This hue is a blend of fuchsia and purple with dusky pink undertones. It has a captivating and magical characteristic that speaks of confidence and imagination. It is bold, but in an understated way.

In contrast to the 2013 color of the year, Emerald, which projected growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid is located on the opposite side of the color wheel. This is an eye-catching hue that can be found in today’s current fabrics, paint colors and accessories.

When combined with neutral shades of gray, taupe or cream, it provides a very subtle yet chic environment. For a livelier interior décor, it can be used quite successfully with shades of yellow, pear green or aqua (in small doses).
A splash of this color can be introduced into your interior decorating by way of throw pillows or accessories.
I am incorporating a toned down version of Radiant Orchid in the fabrics and furnishings for the master suite I am creating for the Roswell Woman’s Club Homes of Distinction Show House in The Manor community in Milton, GA which opens in February.
I am introducing this shade into an otherwise neutral environment of soothing taupe, soft grays and creams for a tranquil suite that evokes a feeling of understated elegance with a slightly contemporary influence. Visit us at the Show House to experience the use of this color first hand.
