Rotarians Donate Backpacks To School Children
The Rotary Club of Alpharetta and North Fulton Rotaract Club coordinated the project for kids served by North Fulton Community Charities.
ALPHARETTA, GA -- The Rotary Club of Alpharetta and the North Fulton Rotaract Club recently came together to ensure the community's children have all they need when they return to school next week.
Both clubs raised $1,750 to purchase backpacks and supplies for children served by North Fulton Community Charities.
The first day of school is Monday, Aug. 8 for students in the Fulton County School System.

The North Fulton Rotaract Club is a group of young professionals aged 21 to 30 who have the desire to improve leadership skills by completing community service projects and networking with other professionals from different work forces.
Alterman is the president of the North Fulton Rotaract and when she's not volunteering, she's working as a nurse in the pediatric ICU wing at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
“Having the backpacks ready to go to the children before school starts is very important so that the children start their first day with a new backpack filled with supplies," Alterman said. "This is just a beginning of starting a path of success for the children.
The backpacks were stuffed with markers, crayons, scissors, glue sticks, pencil pouches, notebooks, pocket folders, wide ruled paper, colored pencils, index cards, composition notebooks, highlighters and calculators.
“It is so humbling to be a part of filling these backpacks so that children have the items they need to start school," said Rotary Club President Jason Binder. "We care about the community and are always finding ways to serve others so that we are contributing to individuals building better lives for themselves and their families.”
