Rotary Club, Volunteers Give Back During Alpharetta Day of Service
Club members and volunteers made sandwiches for MUST Ministries and created care packages for military service members in Afghanistan.
ALPHARETTA, GA -- Alpharetta Rotarians and their families came together April 30 for the Alpharetta Day of Service initiative.
This day, which is reserved for volunteers to serve others in the community, started as a partnership with the YMCA, the Rotary Club of Alpharetta, the city and Mayor David Belle Isle.
The event has grown to include churches and volunteer groups and continues to grow each year. Services for the day included making sandwiches for MUST Ministries, a nonprofit organization that addresses the basic needs of less fortunate families and children.

Rotarians also cleaned up Wills Park by taking out ivy and putting down new mulch, and cleaned up the arboretum areas.
One of the many projects where Alpharetta Rotarians participated was packing and sending care packages to military service members in Afghanistan. Volunteers filled 18 boxes with items such as canned fruit, candy, nuts, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, chips, dip, raisins, cookies and assorted other foods and personal hygiene items.

The care packages were sent to elements of the 75th Ranger Regiment and a unit based in FOB Fenty.
“Our military sacrifices so much for our nation, (and) we are honored to be able to give back to them," Rotary Club of Alpharetta President Kirk Driskell said. "Alpharetta Rotarians love giving back, so helping with a variety of needed projects on the Day of Service demonstrates Alpharetta Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self.”
