ATLANTA, GA — A woman suspected of shooting three people — killing two — was taken into custody Monday after the attacks in Atlanta’s Midtown neighborhood, according to police.

The shootings occurred around 2 p.m., when officers were called to the 1200 block of West Peachtree Street, where they found two people shot, before responding to the 1100 block of Peachtree Street, police said, where they discovered another victim. The lone survivor remained hospitalized as of Monday afternoon, according to police.

“We do not believe these were random acts of violence,” Interim Chief of Police Darin Schierbaum said Monday at a press conference live-streamed by the Atlanta Police Department. “We do believe that individuals were likely targeted that were harmed today.”

The shooting triggered a shelter-in-place alert for the area, according to police, and the search for the attacker led emergency personnel to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, where the woman was taken into custody about 4 p.m. Her weapon, a handgun, was also recovered at the airport, police said. The woman was not in a controlled section of the airport when she was apprehended, according to Mayor Andre Dickens.

“You are safe at this time,” Dickens said, addressing community members while at the press conference. “The suspect has been apprehended and all is back to normal.”
