Store Employee Pepper Sprayed By Robbery Suspect

The employee told Alpharetta police she was attacked by one of three women accused of stealing clothes from Carter's at North Point Mall.

ALPHARETTA, GA -- An employee at a clothing store at North Point Mall was pepper sprayed by one of three women accused the business last weekend in Alpharetta.

An officer with the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety was dispatched to Carter's around 4:44 p.m. Saturday, April 22 and met with three employees and two witnesses.

One employee said three women entered the store and began to shop.

"The females started to look suspicious by stuffing merchandise in blue Carter's shopping bags quickly, and looking around to see if they were being watched," the woman told the officer, according to an incident report released by the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety.

The employee started a conversation with one of the women, and the other two ran out of the door with two shopping bags full of merchandise.

When the third woman began to leave, the employee said she grabbed the shopping bag from the subject and "while doing so, she was sprayed by pepper spray in the face," the report adds.

The third subject fled the store.

Police were unable to retrieve surveillance footage at Carter's at the time of the incident, but were able to obtain video from nearby Nordstrom Rack.

The trio were identified as black women. The first was wearing light blue shorts, a white shirt, blue scarf and was about 5'4'' to 5'6'' tall and weighed between 100 and 120 pounds. The second woman wore green shorts, a dark-colored shirt and was about the same build as the first woman. She was seen a carrying a Carter's shopping bag.

The third woman wore a black shirt and white shorts. However, her build could be slightly larger, as her height was estimated to be between 5'4'' and 5'7'' tall and her weight ranged from 120 to 145 pounds.

A canister of pepper spray was left behind at the scene and was logged as evidence by police.
