Student Wins First Place at National Chess Championship

Sunshine STEM Academy student Varun Gadi is the national chess champion in the first grade category.

ORLANDO, December 6 2015 - Sunshine STEM Academy (http://sunshinestem.academy) 1st grade student, Varun Gadi has received 1st Place at the National Chess Competition in First Grade Category and he placed his name as National Chess Champion of 2015. Varun was placed 28th place at the US Chess National Competition in K-1 category last year.

The K-12 Grade US Chess Nationals in Orlando was held with the record breaking attendance, with 1725 players pre-registered for the Main Event, the highest total since 2003. US Chess Director of Events Francisco Guadalupe told US Chess, “We had to make some adjustments to the floor plans because of the great attendance, a good “problem” to have!
