These Are The 50 Safest Towns In Georgia For 2019: New List

A new report ranks the 50 safest places to live in Georgia for 2019. Where does your community rank?

ATLANTA, GA — Georgia is a success story among the states in the Deep South with export shipping via Savannah, along with manufacturing, investment and technology jobs based in the Atlanta area. The household income matches the national average, but the violent crime rate is more than double the national average.

The latest FBI crime statistics, just released for 2017, show that the Atlanta metro had 21,357violent crimes reported, a category that includes murder and non-negligent manslaughter, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. The region includes Atlanta, Sandy Springs, Barrow, Bartow, Butts, Carroll, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, Dawson, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Haralson, Heard, Henry, Jasper, Lamar, Meriwether, Morgan, Newton, Paulding, Pickens, Pike, Rockdale, Spalding, and Walton counties.

The median per capita income for Georgians ranges from $50,000 to $60,000, which matches national averages. The state’s crime averages continue to be at or above national levels. They include:

  • It’s the 42nd safest state for property crime (No. 1 means the lowest crime)
  • Georgia has a violent crime rate significantly above the national average with a ratio of 1.25 based upon 4.33 violent crimes per 1,000 versus the national average figure of 3.47.
  • Property crime is marginally below national levels at 39.23 against the national level of 40.43 – giving a ratio of 0.97.

The National Council for Home Safety and Security ranked the safest towns and cities in Virginia based on the most recent FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics and population sizes. Towns with populations under 10,000 weren't ranked. NCHSS also computed a "police adequacy" variable which measures the total number of crimes compared to the number of police employees.
