Thrivent Financial Donates $60,000 Towards New Habitat Home

The company's members will also donate volunteer hours to build Habitat for Humanity-North Central Georgia's 300th home in Woodstock.

Thrivent Financial and Habitat for Humanity-North Central Georgia are partnering in Woodstock to build a home alongside a local family through the Thrivent Builds Homes program. Thrivent members and others will volunteer to help the future homeowners build their new home. To support safe, decent, and affordable housing in the area Thrivent has awarded $60,000 to support construction of a new Habitat for Humanity home and local Thrivent members will also help raise additional funds.

Habitat homeowners come from different backgrounds and have different stories, but they are all similar in their desire for a safe, decent place to live. Habitat for Humanity-North Central Georgia partners with families in the local community to provide a “hand-up” in regards to permanent housing solutions. Through the Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity partnership another family will build their home and a foundation for a brighter future.

Thrivent Builds Homes is one of three Thrivent Builds programs which partners the financial, volunteer and advocacy resources of Thrivent Financial together with the affordable housing construction leadership of Habitat. Thrivent Builds Homes focuses on building new homes alongside future Habitat homeowners who will pay an affordable mortgage for their home and will contribute hundreds of sweat equity hours in the construction process or complete other tasks. Thrivent Builds Repairs is a program that focuses on helping complete external repairs on existing homes, and Thrivent Builds Worldwide sends teams of volunteers across the country or across the globe to build homes with Habitat families.

Greg Sinatra, a Financial Consultant with Thrivent Financial, said, “The Thrivent Builds program provides Habitat with more options to serve our area. With my colleagues, Financial Associates Jennifer Yankowsky and Patrick DeLuca, I am excited to partner with Habitat on this build to put God’s love into action by bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope so that everyone has a decent place to live.”

“We are so grateful for Thrivent’s continued support of our efforts to both build and repair homes in partnership with families working toward strength, stability, and self-reliance” said Sabrina Kirkland, Manager of Faith Relations at Habitat-North Central Georgia. “Together, we are helping a family and strengthening the community.”

About Habitat for Humanity - North Central Georgia

Habitat for Humanity - North Central Georgia is a non-profit, Christian housing ministry that builds simple, decent homes for purchase by low- to moderate-income families who demonstrate a capacity for responsible homeownership. Since its inception in 1995, Habitat-NCG has completed 291 homes, serving over 1,075 family members in North Fulton, Cherokee and Forsyth/Dawson counties. Each family is required to attend six educational classes and perform 200-300 sweat equity hours. Families earn between 30% and 60% of the Atlanta area median income and purchase their homes from Habitat which provides them with a 30-year, no-interest loan. Family members work side by side with the volunteers, sponsors, and Habitat staff to build their homes. These families not only get to experience the pride of homeownership but they also know that their lives will be changed forever. In addition to new home construction, Habitat North Central Georgia started a home repair program in 2014. To date, 29 repair projects have been completed serving veterans and seniors.
