Wills Park Assault: Police Have Leads On Suspect

A woman was assaulted on Tuesday in Wills Park and the police have leads as to the suspect's identity.

ALPHARETTA, GA -- A woman was walking in Wills Park with her one-year-old on Tuesday when an unidentified man assaulted her. She was able to fight him off, according to police, and he fled the scene. Police say they have leads.

John Robinson, Director of Public Safety in Alpharetta, made a statement on Wednesday describing the incident and what Alpharetta law enforcement is doing to prevent such assaults. Watch below:

At around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Wills Park near the equestrian center, the victim walked past a black male, age 35 to 40, who was wearing a gray mechanic-type shirt with patches, gray pants and black shoes. He had what Robinson described as a five-o'clock shadow.

After the victim walked past, the male forced her against a building near the equestrian center and attempted to sexually assault her. "Much to her credit," Robinson said, "she was able to fight him off and get the attention of some bystanders in the area," before the assaulter fled the scene.

The child was unharmed in the incident. Robinson said the police have leads coming in and have a sketch artist coming as well, who will hopefully have a good drawing of the suspect ready in one or two days.

Robinson noted the existing police presence at the town's parks, but said there will be a bolstered police presence in lieu of the assault.

Robinson told listeners that "this is a very rare and isolated incident," and that the police want residents "to feel free to continue to come out and enjoy these great parks we have here in Alpharetta.
