Wire & Wood Festival Kicks Off Friday in Alpharetta

The event will begin with free concerts at Avalon and downtown Alpharetta, with additional singer-songwriter performances on Saturday.

ALPHARETTA, GA -- We are just hours away from the return of the Wire & Wood Alpharetta Songwriters Festival.

The fourth annual festival will be held Oct. 7-8, and will bring nationally recognized singer-songwriters together to perform their original music.

The event also gives music lovers a "behind-the-scenes look at the stories that inspired country, rock, blues, Americana and bluegrass music," the website says.

Tickets are now on sale for the event and can be purchased online. A free kickoff concert will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 7 in The Plaza at Avalon.

Singer-songwriters Andrew Ripp and Jimmy LaFave are scheduled to perform during the free concert.

Another free, kick-off concert will be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in downtown Alpharetta on the South Main Alley and Main Street stages.

The music fest continues at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8 on five stages along Milton Avenue in downtown Alpharetta.

Prominent songwriters slated to make an appearance include John Oates of Hall & Oates, Emily Saliers of Indigo Girls, Ken Block and Drew Copeland of Sister Hazel, Shawn Mullins and Kristian Bush of Sugarland.

You can visit the Wire and Wood Alpharetta website to purchase your tickets for Saturday's shows. The price is $35 in advance and $40 at the gate.

If you're at Avalon's free concert on Friday, you will also have a chance to purchase tickets during the kick-off event.

Kids 12 and under will be admitted for free to the event, which will be held rain or shine. No dogs or outside food or beverages are allowed.

Motorists can park for free at the Alpharetta City Hall parking deck at 2 Park Plaza or at the Milton Center/Independence High School at 86 School Drive.
