However, one woman pulled over by an officer with the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety in Georgia was the exception to this rule. The citizen, who was given a citation Friday morning for speeding, decided to write a thank you note to the officer before she continued on with her day.

“As he started to walk off, she handed him a note and then drove away without saying anything else,” the agency said on its Facebook page.

The note reads:

Mr. officer,

Shame on me for speeding.

There is a lot of publicity (negative) about police officers and your job is very dangerous. I want you to know that my family and I feel very blessed to be protected by wonderful people like you! So, thank you!

Caring Alpharetta resident!

Alpharetta Department of Public Safety Director Gary George said he “fully” understands it’s not a pleasant experience for a resident to receive a ticket for speeding. Nonetheless, the director said he was appreciative of the resident’s positive and supportive words.

“Regarding the person who gave our officer a handwritten note after receiving a citation, I am grateful for this amazing act of acknowledgement and kindness directed to one of our police officers,” he added. “It takes a special person to do such an act of kindness such as this.”
