Workers Injured When Car Plows Into Alpharetta Construction Zone
Police say a driver of a vehicle "improperly" entered into a closed lane and hit a parked car, which struck the workers on GA-400.
ALPHARETTA, GA -- Two construction workers remain hospitalized following a serious accident early Tuesday in a construction zone along GA-400 in Alpharetta.
Police and fire units responded to the crash around 12:44 a.m. May 24 on the southbound side of S.R. 400 at the Encore Parkway bridge construction zone.
Initial reports indicate a 1996 Toyota Avalon driven by a 21-year old-motorist was travelling southbound on GA-400 when it "improperly entered a lane that was closed," said Alpharetta Department of Public Safety spokesperson George Gordon.

The vehicle struck an unoccupied F-150 owned by Marietta-based CW Matthews Construction company. That truck then hit two construction employees.
The collision pinned a 48-year-old worker between the guardrail and the truck, resulting in the man suffering serious injuries.

The second victim, a 20-year-old male, only suffered moderate injuries in connection to the collision, Gordon added.
The crash incident is under investigation by the agency's Traffic Enforcement Unit and charges are pending the completion of the investigation. Return to Patch for updates.
