1 Dead In Athens Car Crash

ATHENS, GA — A 67-year-old Athens resident died Wednesday night in a two-car crash at Lexington Road and Oak Drive, according to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.

Police said Jesse Garner was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu around 9:30 p.m., heading west on Lexington in an eastbound lane. The Malibu crashed into a 2016 Nissan Rogue that was being driven by a 23-year-old man, police said.

Garner died at the scene, police said. The five occupants of the Rogue were taken to a local hospital and are expected to survive.

This is the fourth fatal motor vehicle crash in Athens-Clarke County this year.
