2 Charged In Athens Brawl, Shooting That Injured 2
Two people were recently injured after a large brawl led to a shooting at West Clayton Street, police said.
ATHENS — Two people have been arrested in connection with a brawl that led to a shooting in October at West Clayton Street, Athens-Clarke County Police said Monday.
Officers were in the area of West Clayton around 2 a.m., Oct. 29, when they heard multiple gunshots, police said. They then found a large brawl in the road at West Clayton and Hull streets, police said.
Police said the officers then found two people with gunshot wounds to their torsos after breaking up the fight. The two people were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries and are expected to survive, police said.

The Jefferson Police Department and the ACCPD's Safe Streets Unit arrested Ismael Tapia Marquez, 20, of Athens, on Nov. 3 in connection with the shooting, police said.
Marquez was charged on suspicion of two counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, police said.

The next day, police said Israel Tapia, 20, of Athens, was arrested and was charged on suspicion of battery, simple battery and false statements.
"Several subjects involved in this fight are still outstanding. Video footage of the incident shows several bystanders filming the fight and subsequent shooting," police said in a news release.
