$2M Lottery Ticket Sold in Athens

A Colbert man bought the winning scratch-off at a local gas station.

A winning Georgia Lottery ticket with a $2 million top prize was recently sold in Athens, the lottery announced Thursday.

The winner, Dwight Burns of Colbert, claimed his prize Monday at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Duluth, according to lottery officials.

Chevron Food Mart, 2030 S. Milledge Ave., sold the instant scratch-off ticket from the Monopoly Millionaire game.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $16.7 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including the HOPE Scholarship Program and Pre-K Program.
