1. Crash Traps Car Beneath Clarke Co. School Bus Carrying Students (patch.com) — Morning drivers near the Athens Perimeter by Jefferson Road saw major delays after a Clarke County school bus carrying students ended up with a car trapped beneath it. Athens-Clarke County firefighters used specialized towing equipment to free the wedged vehicle, and while the cause remains unknown, officials reported no injuries among students and all lanes have since reopened.
2. Athens in Motion Unveils Updated Street Safety Plan (flagpole.com) — Athens-Clarke County is weighing an updated Athens in Motion plan that targets 16 key corridors for safer walking and biking, including Baxter Street, Barnett Shoals, College Station, and Prince Avenue. With walkers and cyclists involved in a disproportionate share of crashes, the proposal would fold safety upgrades into routine repaving and could shape how residents move around town for years.
3. Downtown Dance Company cuts ribbon in LaGrange (lagrangenews.com) — A new LaGrange dance studio owner recalls being thrust into leadership during a competition in Athens when her mentor had a medical emergency. That Athens experience convinced her she was ready to run her own studio, turning a lifelong passion into a downtown LaGrange business. The piece focuses on her journey from student to studio owner.
4. How Athens-area high schools ranked in U.S. News' latest list (onlineathens.com) — Several Athens-area high schools, including North Oconee and Oconee County, earned strong placements in the 2026–27 U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools rankings for Georgia.
