Athens Clarke County Schools Named AP Honor Schools
Cedar Shoals and Clarke Central are honored.

The Georgia Department of Education has named both and l as Advanced Placement Honor Schools.
“I applaud our students, teachers, administrators and parents for the hard work that has led to this level of achievement,” said Superintendent Philip D. Lanoue. “Our students receive a challenging education each and every day.”

Cedar Shoals was recognized in the following category:
-AP Access and Support School: Schools with at least 30% of their AP exams taken by students who identified themselves as African- American and/or Hispanic and 30% of all AP exams earning scores of 3 or higher.

Clarke Central was recognized in the following category:
-AP STEM Schools: Schools with students testing in at least two AP math courses and two AP science courses (AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Environmental Science, AP Physics B, AP Physics C, AP Computer Science) -AP STEM Achievement Schools: Schools with students testing in at least two AP math courses and two AP science courses and at least 40% of the exam scores on AP math and AP science exams earning scores of three (3) or higher.
Plus, Clarke County students scored at or above the average mean AP test score in 14 out of 17 state and national AP tests for spring 2011. For the 2011 school year, the number of students enrolled in AP courses increased – for economically disadvantaged as well as advantaged students.
