Athens-Clarke National Night Out Set Aug. 2

It will be held 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department and Target are sponsoring a National Night Out on Saturday, Aug. 2, in the parking lot of Target, 3065 Atlanta Hwy, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

National Night Out is a nationwide program designed to heighten crime, drug, and gang prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Activities will include the ACCPD Crime Prevention Unit, ACCPD Traffic officers conducting car child seat safety checks, The University of Georgia Crime Prevention Unit as well as Bomb and K9 Units, ACC Fire Department, and Project Safe.

There will be free food, face painting, balloon figures, and other safety/health resources for the entire family.
