Athens Crime Blotter--man arrested for battery and other charges

Around 9:40am on June 21 officers responded to the 900 block of College Avenue to a woman being attacked by a man who had broken into her vehicle. When they got there, officers talked with a witness who said as he drove down College Avenue, he heard a woman screaming. He saw a man punch a woman and throw her to the ground. He got out of his car with his handgun and told him to leave her alone. The suspect fled toward Pulaski Street. The man with the handgun gave the officers a description of the suspect and a perimeter was set up. Clarke County Sheriff’s deputies assisted with this search. Investigation revealed the suspect entered a vehicle owned by a Comer woman. When she approached the vehicle and called out to him, he attacked her. Items had been removed from the vehicle but were recovered near it. Police determined that a hand gun was stolen. The area was searched but the suspect was not located. However, the name of a suspect was developed. Around 1:30pm Georgia State Patrol troopers saw a man who matched the description of the suspect in the area of Willow Street and North Avenue. When they stopped and got out to talk to him, he fled into a wooded area. ACCPD officers were notified and a perimeter was set up. As they entered the woods, they saw the man and chased him.. After a short chase he was apprehended. The gun stolen from the car was recovered. Samuel Tyrone Evans, 57, Frederick Drive, was arrested and charged with Entering Auto, Battery, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Obstruction/Hindering LEO.
Officers had contact with three men at THE PARK, 2360 W Broad Street around 12:46am on June 22. It was determined one was in possession of a quantity of marijuana and he was arrested. Gartavis Antwoine Johnson, 27, Pauldoe Street, was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana.

A woman reported that her Rolling Ridge Drive residence was burglarized between 11am and 11:30am on June 21. Twenty-five dollars was stolen. A suspect was named.
Between 5pm and 5:50pm on June 21 a North Bluff Road residence of was burglarized. Cash, a TV, and papers were stolen. The total value was $770.

A Carr Street residence was burglarized between 8pm and 11:30pm on June 21. A TV, video controllers, and a laptop were stolen. The total value was $665.
