Athens Man Accused Of Robbing Older Man At Gunpoint

Police said the 21-year-old man stole cigarettes, money and lottery tickets from a 64-year-old man.

ATHENS, GA — A 21-year-old Athens man is facing charges after Athens-Clarke County Police said he robbed a 64-year-old man at gunpoint Thursday evening.

Police said Friday the older man was near the intersection of Burney and Little Oak streets around 7:45 p.m., when the younger armed man robbed him of his cigarettes, money and lottery tickets.

After receiving a description of the suspect and a vehicle in he was in, police found the man shortly after the robbery and arrested him without incident, police said.

Shamon Elder was charged on suspicion of armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime and driving on a suspended license, police said. Elder remained Friday in the Clarke County Jail, according to jail records.
