Athens Man Killed In 2-Vehicle Crash

The fatal crash happened Wednesday evening at Whit Davis and Pioneer roads.

ATHENS, GA — An Athens man died Wednesday evening after his motorcycle was hit by a pickup truck at Whit Davis and Pioneer roads, Athens-Clarke County Police said Thursday.

A 1982 Honda motorcycle was traveling south on Whit Davis around 7:15 p.m. Police said witnesses told officers the motorcycle was passing cars and tried to go around a curve, where it dropped and slid into the path of oncoming northbound traffic.

A 2003 Toyota Tundra pickup truck then hit the motorcycle and its driver, who was identified by police as Kashif Abbas, 50.

Abbas was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police said this is the 12th fatal vehicle crash in Athens-Clarke County this year.
